Sears Holdings announced today that Deidra Cheeks Merriwether has been promoted to SVP and president – Retail Services succeeding James H. Haworth who will be leaving the company to pursue other opportunities. Merriwether will be responsible for the oversight and leadership of retail services for all Kmart and Sears stores.
Merriwether started with Sears Holdings in 2001 as director, IT Finance and Global Capital Planning for Kmart and has risen quickly through the company – holding roles of increasing responsibility within real estate, procurement and finance. Merriwether most recently served as SVP, procurement and finance. She also serves as a member of Sears Canada’s board of directors and is the executive sponsor of the company’s African American Associate Network.
“Deidra is an accomplished leader,” said Bruce Johnson, interim CEO and president of Sears Holdings. “She has a keen understanding of the retail business. Her past experiences within the company, along with a demonstrated success in creating and inspiring high performance teams that are focused on satisfying the customer, make her a perfect fit for this role.”
Prior to Sears Holdings, Merriwether served as vice president, Finance and Real Estate Acquisitions for Isiah Investments. Previous to Isiah Investments, she was in the Fast Track to Partner Program with PricewaterhouseCoopers as manager, Mergers & Acquisitions. Merriwether earned an MBA in finance and operations management from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business and holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from North Carolina A&T State University.
