Google’s India-centric initiative aimed at “helping women-owned businesses grow their online presence”, which they launched in India in February, 2012 ( Google describes it as their pilot project ) is open for any woman-owned business currently operating out of India. The program will take participants through its five circles as they call it, which helps the business build its online presence, collaborate, connect, promote the business/organisation and finally track/optimize one’s web efforts – all these, making full use of the suite of Google Web products that are available online.
If you are a woman-owned business in India (registered or un-registered), newbie or experienced with the web, the Google team will help you set up your online presence and walk you through how best you can optimise its product suite in helping your business grow. With a recent study that reinforces the enterprising spirit of women entrepreneurs, which found that women are 1.17 times more likely than men to create social ventures than economic ventures, and women are 1.23 times more likely to pursue environmental ventures than economic focused ventures, Google has smartly tapped into this reservoir of talent and fortitude. The entire program is free save for the online domain charges one needs to pay for registering your website, if you already haven’t.
The program also encourages organizations and educational institutions working with Women Entrepreneurs join in through which they can either register the members individually or have a training session conducted for the members collectively. There are quite a number of success stories that are inspiring enough for more women entrepreneurs to join in.
