Jennifer Walzer’s BUMI takes care of people and data, in that order

She has stood upside down in a snowstorm, handing out flyers, to see through a passionate idea that was not exactly what you call path-breaking. Data backup was already there when she got into the market with her product, Back Up My Info or BUMI for short. But, she focused on something that the existing players so sorely forgot in their continuous effort in technically scaling up their infrastructure, diversification and technical snazziness – customer service. She made that the corner stone of the business. Jennifer Walzer is the CEO of Back Up My Info, BUMI that provides online backup and recovery-managed services — reducing the need for a company’s own IT staffing, time or expertise — for small to midsize businesses. The company focuses on SMBs in the professional services market who have compliance and regulatory concerns, and also where growing volumes of data are creating backup window issues.

Jennifer BUMIJennifer Walzer has an extensive background in technology and business strategy consulting. Prior to founding Backup My Info!, Jennifer spent her career helping organizations of all sizes with their back office systems and online web presence. Jennifer also successfully launched and sold a software development company focused on developing Interactive Voice Response Systems for Multi-Employer Benefit Funds. Jennifer has focused most of her time on her employees, treating them as she expects them to treat the clients. Showing them respect and helping them grow, helps Jen keep each one of her employees as passionate about the work as she is. That has helped the company continue to grow without losing their core values and personalized support.

The business idea that focused on great service and SME’s was based on her long stint with SME’s  and Fortune 1000 companies that looked up to reliable sources that could provide back-up for their data as more and more of offices literally went virtual.  Her father–a real-life rocket scientist–played a key role in setting the base for her fondness of technology and business.
Jennifer says, “My priority is taking care of the people who take care of you, which is why I treat my team members as my clients. If I take incredible care of them, I know that they will do the same for you. The strength of our team results from hiring people from diverse backgrounds who share a common goal – taking care of others.” It is the foundation of an enterprise that has seen its figure double every year since its inception in 2002, as it focuses mainly on the SME sector, and extending them the best possible services in customer relationship management.

With a clients honor roll that include professional service organizations like banking, financial, insurance, accounting, hedge funds and law firms, their collective passion for helping others has helped define a company that has successfully grow,  focusing primarily on backup and maintaining the utmost expertise in our field, and of course, exceptional customer service.

Jennifer Walzer is also a lead blogger at The New York Times SMALL BUSINESS’s You’re the Boss series.
